Shanghai is the country’s biggest city and a global financial hub. Originally a fishing village and market town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to both domestic and foreign trade and its port location.

Hotel rooms are booked on a bed and breakfast basis and are reserved under delegates’ names; please use your passport or valid ID to check in.

BOOKING EXTRA NIGHTS

We have negotiated special rates if you wish to book additional nights at the event hotels. These rates are valid for up to two nights before and after the event. Please inform the team of your request by Friday 18 October. The cost of the additional nights will be paid by you directly to the hotel on your arrival. Cancellations of additional nights after Friday 18 October will be paid in full.

Visiting China

ENTRY INTO MAINLAND CHINA

British Passport holders require a visa to enter mainland China. You must apply for a visa prior to your travel. An official invitation letter can be issued by the Department for Business & Trade to those who require visas. Please request the letter of invitation template from the DBT, via English UK, and then submit your letter no more than three months before travel. Allow up to five working days for your signed and stamped letter to be returned.

Please note that from 1 November 2018 Chinese Visa Application Centres capture all applicants’ fingerprints on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in the UK in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations. Applicants applying for Chinese visas are required to submit the application in person to have their fingerprints and photo taken at the Visa Application Centres. Visitors to China whose fingerprints and photo do not match may be denied entry.

China is trialling visa-free travel for citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia from 1 December to 30 November 2024. Ordinary passport holders from these countries can do business or travel in China without a visa for up to 15 days.

ARRIVAL IN CHENGDU

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU)

The Shangri-La is approx. 30km from the airport and 40 minute taxi ride.

ARRIVAL IN BEIJING

Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) – Star Alliance Airlines

The China World Trade Centre hotel is approx. 30 km from the Beijing Capital International Airport.

Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) – BA, Air China, Finnair, LOT

The China World Trade Centre hotel is approx. 45 km from Beijing Daxing International Airport.

It is safe to take a taxi from the airports. Taxi drivers take payments in cash, WeChat Pay and Alipay.

FLIGHTS AND RESTRICTIONS

Please note the event package does not include international flights to, or domestic travel within China. Each representative is responsible for booking their own flights.

We encourage delegates to take the train between Beijing and Shanghai.

Flight restrictions

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), lithium batteries that are usually used in notebook PCs, mobile phones and digital cameras cannot be contained within checked luggage, they must be packed in passengers’ hand luggage. A maximum of two spare batteries are allowed to be carried as hand luggage.

Portable chargers/batteries are completely banned in checked luggage. Portable chargers/batteries with a capacity of less than 100 watt-hours are allowed in hand luggage. Each passenger is allowed to carry no more than two portable batteries with a capacity between 100-160 watt-hours. Those above 160 watt-hours are prohibited on the plane. If the capacity of a portable charger is not specified, it is also prohibited.

ACCESSING WEBSITES BLOCKED CHINA

Under China’s policy of internet censorship, many popular websites are blocked in China. These include many social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, as well as search engines, news and productivity sites Google, New York Times, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

To access these websites in China, you will need to download/install a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to your device(s) before travelling to China. VPN’s vary in cost and speed of access but include ExpressVPN and NordVPN. English UK does not recommend or endorse any VPN.

StudyWorld meetings

The majority of your meetings will be pre-scheduled ahead of the event, using industry-leading meeting technology, Marcom eSchedule PRO. There will also be additional opportunities to schedule meetings during the event.

Complete your event profile to explain your organisation’s services and objectives, then search the event database to decide who you want to meet.

Meeting scheduling and attendance at StudyWorld China Roadshow is more flexible than at other events. You will fully benefit from the event by making yourself available for last-minute meetings and adopting an agile attitude towards your schedule and who you will meet.

During the event, the StudyWorld and BONARD teams will be on hand to help you manage your schedule.

Marcom eSchedule PRO will go live mid-October; you will be sent an email from Marcom Connect containing your username and password. If you are a new Marcom eSchedule PRO user, click on the “Getting Started” link which can be found above the menu bar when you are logged on to your account.

WORKSHOP TABLES

All educators and service providers are allocated individual tables. Each table comes with four chairs, a tablecloth and a table name plate displaying the organisation name and table number. All promotional material must fit on top of your table. Materials that obstruct the view of other tables are not permitted. A limited number of power sockets will be available in the main exhibition room for charging laptops, tablets, etc. A power socket cannot be guaranteed to every table.

Local printing of marketing materials

If you are interested in printing brochures, leaflets, flyers, etc. in China for the StudyWorld China Roadshow, a local printer has been recommended by BONARD. Contact with the printer is via WeChat, which has an inbuilt translator. Grace Zhu from BONARD can assist with enquiries if required.
