Nine videos that scored most highly for inspiring others to discover William Shakespeare, and for their creativity, have been chosen by a panel of experts to win three week, fully funded English language courses in the UK.
As part of the year-long Shakespeare Lives campaign, a global celebration of Shakespeare’s influence on culture and languages, English UK and the British Council successfully applied for £41,000 of funding to deliver a student-facing campaign in Spanish-speaking Latin America, to promote the UK’s language teaching sector.
Aspiring students from across Latin America were challenged to submit a one-minute video in English, inspired by Shakespeare, that will motivate other learners of English to discover more about the playwright.
When the competition closed on 21 November, the 30 videos with the highest number of YouTube views were shortlisted and judged by a panel of experts.
The nine lucky winners who have each won a three week trip to study English in the UK are:
- Ana María Obando Castellanos
- Cecilia Rodríguez Gil
- Fanny Pilar Alvarez Guillén
- Gina Lizeth Yarleque Castro
- Héctor Javier Osuna Aguirre
- Jimena Cornejo Romero
- Maria Julieta Fernandez
- Marisela Natalí Romero Rodríguez
- Taís Janellys Perales Angeles

Congratulations also go to the 21 other shortlisted finalists who will receive a bilingual Shakespeare play. See all the competition entries received on YouTube by searching #ShakespeareLives.
In early 2017, our nine winners will travel to different regions of the UK and document their experiences of studying and living here. Their experiences will be shared via social media, email and by travel bloggers to promote the UK as an ELT study destination. In total, we expect the campaign to reach 15-20 million Spanish-speaking potential students.
A big thank you to the member centres who will host the competition winners:
